The Preservation Society Headquarters, which lies within the city limits of Springfield Missouri, was used as the primary gathering grounds for the aforementioned documents. In 2021, the album Certainty the Enemy was released. Recorded in his garage with two microphones and the time provided by the pandemic, Heugel performed all instruments on the record, save some wonderful vocals by Lauren Slater and additional instrumentation on the title track by Todd Gummerman.
One reviewer (who is definitely not Heugel’s grandmother) writes, “Heugel’s inability to settle on a style of music makes his songs feel like half-wrapped parcels jettisoned from the trunk of a Buick crossing the American West. They’re well-shaken, scuffed, and whatever was inside is surely broken.”
No issue is taken with this assessment.
